Stepan Company has gained a firm footing in the chemical manufacturing industry since its establishment in 1932. Through science we develop and manufacture specialty ingredients that are used in a multitude of end-use products from drywall to shampoos. Our products insulate offices, disinfect hospitals, paint walls, clean clothes, condition hair and much more. Our global headquarters is comprised of two offices in Northfield and Northbrook, Illinois. Located just 30 miles north of Chicago, our corporate teams include the following functions:

Our information technology (IT) department delivers business solutions that ensure the efficient operation of our global business. The Stepan IT department is comprised of a diverse, skilled group of information technology experts providing high-quality services and project delivery in our Illinois-based headquarters and 18 manufacturing plants around the world.

Each unit within the department supports our global growth strategy by developing, implementing and supporting business applications and technologies. Together, the teams provide reliable and secure telecommunications and computing services for the entire organization.

Stepan R&D teams across the world strive to deliver products and technologies that make a difference and meet the emerging needs of our customers and society. Our ambition is to innovate, bring science to sustainability, and turn local insights into global solutions. We invest over $50 million in R&D every year, with teams in Brazil, China, France, Mexico, Poland, Singapore and the United States. This includes investments in new instrumentation and technologies to equip our scientists with the tools they need to solve customer problems.

Our sales professionals leverage their technical backgrounds, knowledge of Stepan’s product portfolio and market insights to engage in meaningful conversations with current or potential customers and help answer their questions. Some of their best partnerships are often working with a formulating chemist right at the lab bench.

Stepan also has dedicated marketing resources including Business Development Managers, Market Managers, Data Analysts, and Marketing Communications Specialists that specialize in identifying emerging markets and chemistries, portfolio diversification, market insights, data analytics, and integrated marketing management and promotions. 

Stepan offers a unique opportunity to participate in our rotational sales and marketing internship and training programs. Our programs expose college students or recent graduates to how we run our businesses. We guide them through meaningful projects that give them invaluable experience while directly impacting Stepan’s success. A win-win for the student and the company!

Our supply chain includes the entire production flow starting with sourcing of raw materials for products all the way to delivering products to our customers.
