Stepan Lipid Nutrition is a leading global supplier of science-based nutritional oils for the food, nutrition, and pharmaceutical markets.

 

Our nutritional oils are primarily active ingredients and also function as excipients across a variety of applications.  Our lipid products are primarily natural-based, safely modified or structured, to support the required food and nutritional formulations.

 

Joining our staple product, NEOBEE® (Medium Chain Triglycerides MCTs), the Stepan Company’s Food & Health Specialties business has added three product lines with our acquisition on June 23, 2011.  The products are: Clarinol® (Conjugated Linoleic Acid), Marinol® (Omega-3s), and PinnoThin® (Pine Nut Oil concentrate).  The food business has been named Stepan Lipid Nutrition to best represent our portfolio.  At the same time, Stepan Lipid Nutrition is part of our corporate business segment of Specialty Products.

NEOBEE® (Medium Chain Triglycerides  MCTs)
MCTs, originally developed in the 1950’s to treat patients with mal-absorption, have grown into many food application areas due to MCTs functional properties and nutritional value.  Our NEOBEE® MCTs are naturally derived healthy fats which deliver functional and nutritional benefits to food systems.  They are readily absorbed, low calorie, and non trans-fat.  MCT’s unique physical properties enable their utility as a solubilizer for flavors, colors, and bio-actives, including beverage clouding and weighting agents.  Main applications are in infant formula, flavor carrier, and weight management, including sports nutrition solutions.

 

NEOBEE® Medium Chain Triglycerides have been used in nutritional products for over forty years due to the unique way they are metabolized.  Unlike typical long chain fats that travel through the body's lymphatic system, MCTs are transported directly to the liver where they are preferentially and efficiently burned for energy.  In fact, clinically supported studies demonstrate efficient fat metabolism.  When compared to conventional fats, MCTs have shown greater energy expenditure by as much as 48% and 65% in lean and obese individuals, respectively.  Although they are completely saturated, NEOBEE® MCTs have little effect on cholesterol levels under normal circumstances and they provide fewer calories per gram compared to long chain fats.
 

Clarinol®, www.clarinol.com, is a patent-protected Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) which has been sold as a dietary supplement for over ten years as an ingredient to reduce body fat and increase lean muscle mass.  Numerous clinical studies have been driving growth of the markets for CLA Clarinol®.  It was approved by the U.S. FDA as GRAS for use in certain food products in 2008.  Clarinol® food approvals are currently pending in world markets.

 

 

Marinol® naturally concentrated Omega-3 triglycerides are used in clinical and infant nutritional products to promote cardiovascular and neurological health.

 

 

PinnoThin®, www.pinnothin.com, derived from pine nuts, functions as an appetite suppressant.

 

 

 

 

WECOBEE® (Triglycerides)
Originally developed as substitutes for cocoa butter, our triglycerides find utility as components of whipped toppings, confection coatings, and pie fillings.  They are oxidatively stable hard butters derived from edible vegetable oils.   Each grade is specifically processed to achieve specific melting points with accompanying bland taste and odor qualities, with excellent mold release characteristics.  Their higher melting point properties enable their application in cosmetic and pharmaceutical OTC products including suppositories, lip balms, and bases for creams and ointments.

 

DREWPOL® (Polyglycerol Esters)
DREWMULSE® (Mono and Diglycerides)
DREWPOL® and DREWMULSE® are polyglycerol and mono/diglycerides, respectively, and serve multiple functions.  They are food approved; non-ethoxylated emulsifiers used across the world in food systems in liquid and solid forms.  The wide range of HLB (hydrophilic/lipophilic balance) values available enable the optimal properties needed to emulsify, homogenize, and stabilize food and nutrition systems.
